California Chrome became a legend in 2014 when he won the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Many believe he would have won the Triple Crown if he hadn't been injured in the Belmont stakes. In 2016, among his multiple victories, he won the Dubai World Cup. California Chrome continued to race into his six year old year, winning numerous awards including two Vox Populi and two Eclipse Horse of the Year Awards. With earnings over $14.5M, he retired as the richest winning AmericanThoroughbred racehorse of all time. Often called "The Peoples' Horse," he is still followed by hundreds of loyal fans, nicknamed "Chromies."
I spent an incredible week "backside" with California Chrome's team at the Del Mar race track in California getting reference material for this portrait, which appears on the cover of the book "How California Chrome Changed My Life."
This portrait is also available printed on apparel and giftware on the Mercantile page. To see how different sizes of this image would look on your very own wall, check out my awesome AR (Augmented Reality) Live Image Preview tool.
*As with all of my prints, if you need a custom size or medium not listed here, just contact me, and I'll help you out. Be aware that, as the size of the print increases, the brush strokes and technique of the artist become more apparent. (Since not everyone respects the creative rights of artists, I have found it necessary to protect the images on my site with watermarks. Of course, the watermarks will not appear on your final print!)
